Impersonation

One way that Russia influenced the US election was through impersonation. They used accounts on various social media, and posed as US citizens. Their goal was to spread damaging, and sometimes false information to voters to encourage them to vote for certain candiates, or to discourage voting all together. Accounts were identified that could be linked back to the IRA. There were many accounts found that made very frequent posts on Instagram and Facebook.

Another way that Russia influenced the election is through hacking. They used fake security emails to tell people to change their password, and when they did, it gave them the password. They used the emails to send information with the intent of hurting the campaigns of cantidates.
